DES MOINES, Iowa Eastern Illinois track and field competed at the Drake Relays on Friday with two top ten finishes and the men's 4x100m relay team advancing to the finals on Saturday. The men's 4x100m team placed eighth in the prelims on Friday afternoon finishing with a time of 40.65. The relay team included Johnathan Boey, JaMarcus Townsend, Jamal Robinson and Christian Ilunga-Matthiesen. The women's 4x800m relay team placed eighth racing under the lights on Friday evening. The team consisting of Amy Yeoman, Kristen Paris, Julie James and Dhiaa Dean posted a time of 8:47.20. Individually Haleigh Knapp placed seventh in the women's high jump clearing 5'8". Eric Gordon competed in two events on Friday at Drake. He placed 15th in the javelin with a throw of 186'11". Later in the afternoon Gordon did not record a mark in the pole vault. Bryn Buckwalter competed in one of her two events at the Drake Relays on Friday placing 21st in the discus. She had a throw of 143'2". Buckwalter will compete in the shot put on Saturday. EIU had two athletes compete in the 100m prelims on Friday. Boey placed 26th in the men's race with a time of 10.76. Anita Saffa was 33rd in the women's 100m with a time of 12.36. Amina Jackson placed 22nd in the women's 400m hurdles with a time of 1:01.94. She later ran the opening leg on the 4x400m relay as EIU placed 18th with a time of 3:52.28. Jackson was joined on the relay team by Cassidy Strohl, Darneisha Spann and Dean. On Thursday afternoon EIU opened competition in the Drake Relays with two athletes running in the unseeded 800m race. On the women's side Kristen Paris was 10th with a time of 2:10.69. Mark Pedziwiatr was fifth on the men's side with a time of 1:51.64.
