Three First Place Finishes For EIU Track

CHAMPAIGN-URBANA, Ill. Haleigh Knapp improved upon her school record in the high jump on Saturday as she was one of three Eastern Illinois track and field athletes with first place finishes at the Illini Twilight. Knapp won the women's high jump clearing a height of 5'10.75" which was a quarter inch better than her school record setting mark last week at the ISU Redbird Invite. Paxson Menard posted a first place finish for the EIU men in the final event of the night winning the 5K. Menard's time of 14:28.23 just missed cracking the EIU career top ten in the event. Bryn Buckwalter was one three EIU women's throwers that posted top five finishes in multiple events. She won the shot put with a throw of 47'10". She was fifth in the discus with a mark of 141'7". Janie Howse was third in the hammer and fourth in the shot put. Howse's hammer throw of 165'5" ranks fourth at EIU. Her shot put mark on Saturday was 41'11.50". Nicollette Diana placed third in the javelin and fourth in the discus. Diana's javelin throw covered 117'1". Her discus mark was 142'1". Kaitlyn Ebert placed fourth in the javelin with a throw of 115'11" to round out the top five finishes by women's throwers. Three athletes had performances that ranked in the top ten all-time at EIU. Ivy Handley placed third in the women's 5K with her time of 17:08.29 ranking third on the EIU career list. Amy Yeoman was third in the 800m with her time of 2:09.10 ranking fifth all-time at EIU. Eric Gordon was second in the men's pole vault clearing 16'5.25" which was eighth best in school history.
