Track Heads To Illini Twilight Saturday

Eastern Illinois track and field stays in the local area this week as the Panthers will compete at the Illini Twilight on Saturday. The meet begins with the hammer throw at 12 pm followed by other throws events. Jumping events will begin at 4 p.m. with running events set for a 4 p.m. start with the steeplechase. The Panthers competed last weekend at the ISU Redbird Invite with eight individuals winning events. Janie Howse won the women's hammer with Bryn Buckwalter winning the women's shot put. Riley Kittridge took home first place honors in the men's discus. Kendall Williams won the men's long jump with teammate Chrisford Stevens winning the men's triple jump. Eric Gordon had first place honors in the javelin. On the track Dhiaa Dean won the women's 400m dash. Haleigh Knapp rounded out the individual winners as she set the school record in the women's high jump at 5'10.50". Knapp was named the OVC Female Field Athlete of the Week for her efforts. Entering the weekend EIU has seven individuals and one relay team that currently rank first in the Ohio Valley Conference this season. Buckwalter hold the top conference spot in both the shot put and discus. Knapp has the best high jump mark in the OVC. On the track Rachel Garippo has posted the best women's steeplechase time with Anita Saffa posting the league's top 100m time. For the EIU men Christian Ilunga-Matthiesen holds the best 100m time in the OVC. Calvin Edwards has the top OVC spot in the 200m. Eric Gordon has the best javelin throw. The men's 4x100m relay team posted the top OVC mark with the relay team of Johnathan Boey, JaMarcus Townsend, Jamal Robinson and Ilunga-Matthiesen.
